Saturday we had our regional in Indianapolis.  The only sad point was the attendence with a low number of 76.  We also ran a Team Dueling event.  I delayed the start of the event a little so I could get enough teams to start it.  Once we got started, all the teams had a blast.  Samurai's ended up with the win.

The highlight of the day was the 2 eight year old boys that attended with their mom.  This was their first regional and their first Team Dueling event.  They did not really have an impressive win/lost record, but their smiles did bring a joy over the event.  Whoever played these two guys always had a smile on their face after the match.

Their mother did inform me that she was glad she brought the boys to the event.  She said normally they play at a local and no one talks or assists them with their decks.  When they came in at registration one of the judges took them aside and helped them build their decks for the event.  I want to thank John Rocha for taking the time to help these boys.  The mother was very appreciative.  She also informed me she had written down way to many cards he boys now wanted her to buy!!!!!

We've dropped from our usual 90-100 which we're rock steady at to 80 players for the last couple of events as well. I'd hoped that was because of having one regional the day before Easter but that didn't prove to be the case, April regional was the same.

The Team Dueling has yielded a great response. WIth 11-12 teams in the last two events it's obviously being well recieved. I've heard many comments like, "That was the most FUN I've had playing Yugioh in a LONG time!" We're seeing new players in the Team Dueling that have never played in a Pastimes event. Last tournament say a husband / wife team, it was her first time at any event.

The Team Dueling is bringing out deck types that never see the light of day in a regional touranment. The wife from the husband / wife team I mentioned above actually got.....get this.....F-I-N-A-L (Destiny Board) for the game win twice in the last tournament. I told her she's going on my Yugioh Hall of Fame board and that she's my hero! <laffin>

The concensus of the judges I've spoken with is to keep the prize stucture minimal. What happens then is that only players that are truly in the Team Dueling to have FUN enter. The ultra serious players shrug it off and what is left is a bunch of players laughing, smiling, and excited about this tournament.
