Magic Regionals 2008

Hello fellow magic Judges and Players. I was just wondering something. Every year around this time I get the feeling that I want to actually play in Regionals. It was the same with States, I am not sure what it is maybe just a large standard event, maybe just I judge so much I like to play some. I was just curious, how many of you guys plan on playing in Regionals this year, and if you are what do you think the best deck to play is?

I read what you had to say, as far as playing, I am not sure. I am in hopes that I will be there in some capacity whether judging or playing.
I have been doing a great deal of reading on some of the top decks. I have seen Fairies all over the place, but with the introduction of Shadowmoor, I have seen a surge of Merfolk and Elves.
I personally don't like the whole "net-decking" thing, but if I were to play, I would probably build a quick Merfolk deck that has a sideboard that can handle the quick fliers.
In the events that I have played in at my local store, from what I have seen,I think that the most dangerous "theme" deck is rouges. NO MATTER what tribe you choose. That whole prowl cost is a tough one to predict when it is coming.
However, what do I know?

I don't know about best, but I think Quick n' Toast looks like the most fun of the netdecks. It's basically a 5-color deck abusing the Vivid lands/Reflecting Pool synergy. This lets it play the best cards in the format.
It's a midrange deck with Firespout, counters, and card draw. You can probably find a decklist in some PT coverage. It didn't Top 8, but 4 of 5 made day 2, so it has proven itself.
Really, the decks to beat are Faeries, Elves, and Reveillark. But regionals brings out a
lot
of random jank aggro, too. Beat those archetypes and you should be fine.
For me personally, I played last year and I'm not planning on playing in Regionals this year (unless I'm not on staff, then I'll be there). If I were playing, I like rogue decks (that's rogue as in homebrew, not rogue as in the tribe) so I'd play G/W aggro with Wrath of God. Sounds completely nonsensical, but between Heartmender, persist, Saffi, and Shield of the Oversoul your team makes it through Wrath virtually unscathed while your opponent loses everything. Also, Saffi+Cloudthresher is REALLY unfair and fun.
And Chad, just because you're not on staff doesn't mean you won't be blamed for all the screwups. Just think of all those stares you got last year.

I wish I could go, but unfortunately I was stuck with working that weekend. Forgot to ask off for regionals I guess, and just asked off for GP.
As far as the standard scene right now, I think Lark and Faeries are the houses. Faeries beats up on control and Lark beats up on everything except Faeries and decks packing counter. Also, Quick'n Toast seems like it would be a GREAT choice considering its match-ups.
If I had to choose now, I'd either play Faeries or Quick'n. After all of the PT articles, I think the Faerie hate will be toned down and there will be quite a few more Lark and Quick'n decks lurking.
