Hey All,
I wanted to cover a couple of issues. There has been a lot of buzz about GenCon this year. First, up until about a week and a half ago, Wizards had actually not committed to being there. This gets into a lot of legal stuff about Hasbro and GenCon and a lot of "stuff" I don't want to think about.... suffice it to say - WE'LL BE THERE!!
And we will be there with more events, more judges, more prizes and more fun than ever before.
If you check out the event listings you will see these amazing events - plus about 200+ more!
Block Champs. Run the first time last year, one of the largest events in 2007 with over 120 people. Should be amazing again
Legacy Champs. Umm... HUGE!
Grand Melee - because one was not enough!! We have two! And, every player will receive the NEW GM Play Mat
Vintage - Black Lotus Tournament
NEW! Draft Championship! Yep...in Indy, this should be incredible. Three drafts, 6-9 rounds (depends on the number of participants) and a cut to top 8 with another draft round. HUGE PRIZES!!
Two negatives about this year's GenCon is the removal of Vintage Champs and Star Wars Champs from the event line up. Let me touch on these briefly.
1. Star Wars Champs. Simply, new people involved at WoTC and the event is being moved to the west coast. Do I think it was a mistake, yes. Is it my choice, no. Hopefully we will see it back next year. We have however replaced it with some cool events that I believe the players will like.
2. Vintage Champs. Again, not my choice. Vintage Champs has been moved to Nationals (in Chicago this year - did you sign up for sponsorship yet?) Why did they move it to Nationals. Well, IMHO, I think they needed something to cover the geography in the room that was supposed to be Scholarship Series Champs (the old JSS). I don't want to go to deeply into it, but again, I hope it will be back at Gen Con in the future.
Speaking of Nationals, Pastimes will be managing the stage in the late afternoon - night at Nationals. HOWEVER, we do not staff the event, Wizards does. So, if you want to have a judge spot at Nationals (and why wouldn't you?) please check wotc's judge board for info.
Wizard World Chicago. We are also going to be organizing the events for Wizard World Chicago - the events are going to be amazing there as well. I will post a list soon.
See you all soon!!
